Washington County Jail Release Paths
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office operates the county jail and keeps the local booking event. People may leave physical custody after posting bond, receiving recognizance or another pretrial order, completing a jail sentence, obtaining a dismissal, or receiving another court-authorized release. The case may still be active. Bond is not a dismissal, and release from the building does not cancel court dates or conditions.
A jail departure can also continue custody. A sentence may send the person to the Missouri Department of Corrections. Another county may collect the person on a warrant. A federal agency or ICE may take custody, or an authorized medical or treatment placement may follow. Ask for the release reason, effective date and time, and receiving agency. Without those fields, a missing name only shows that the person is absent from a current view.
| Recorded outcome | Next verification |

| Time served or court order | Judgment or order plus sheriff release entry |
| Transfer to MODOC | MODOC Offender Search after intake lag |
| Other county or agency transfer | Named receiving agency’s locator or records office |
| Federal or ICE transfer | Federal case/BOP or ICE ODLS, as applicable |
Confirm Washington County Jail Release
The county website does not provide a browser-based current roster or released-person feed. The sheriff’s official apps may contain jail details, but their public listings do not establish a released tab, update period, or photo archive. A direct call and focused record request are therefore the most reliable local route. The full Washington County released inmate search on the home page also separates county, state, federal, and immigration systems.
- Call 573-438-5478 and ask whether the person is currently confined, released to the community, or transferred.
- Ask for the effective release or transfer date, stated reason or authority, and receiving agency if maintained.
- Request the dated booking-and-release entry when a verbal answer is not enough.
- Search Case.net in Washington County and match the case number, bond, disposition, judgment, and warrants.
- If the record says transfer, follow the receiving system. Do not describe the event as freedom from custody.
Data can lag. A court may authorize release before jail staff finish identity, property, bond, and hold checks.
Washington County Jail Record Request
Address the request to the custodian for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. The county page provides the public office address and number but no dedicated form or records email. Call first for the current submission method. A precise request reduces delays and avoids collecting unrelated material.
- Give the full name, approximate booking range, and case or booking number if known. Add a birth date only when needed to distinguish people.
- Ask for the booking sheet, release date and time, release reason or authority, and any receiving agency.
- Request the booking photograph separately. Ask for electronic delivery and segregable nonexempt portions.
- Seek a fee estimate before costs exceed a limit you set. If access is denied, ask for the specific legal authority in writing.
Missouri §610.023 requires action as soon as possible and no later than the end of the third business day after receipt. That is not an unconditional production deadline. When records cannot be provided at once, the custodian explains the delay and earliest availability. Section 610.026 governs permitted copy and staff charges. No Washington County sheriff fee sheet was found, so a booking-image price should not be guessed.
Washington County Jail Contact
The published location is the sheriff’s public office. The official page does not separately identify a release door, records counter, property window, or family waiting point. It also does not say whether the posted office schedule is the same as jail processing time.

Sheriff Dwayne S. Reed is named on the official page as of the research date. Confirm the correct entrance and purpose before traveling. The county courthouse at 102 North Missouri Street is a separate location, and the Circuit Clerk works from the Court Annex at 104 North Missouri Street.
The official sheriff source shows the local office and its public contact route.

This source does not identify a public release entrance, so callers should seek current directions.
Washington Jail Court Cross-Check
A sheriff entry and court docket answer different questions. The jail record marks the operational event. The docket can show a bond order, release conditions, dismissal, plea, sentence, probation, warrant, or amended judgment. Search Washington County and compare identifiers before relying on a similarly named party.
The Washington County Circuit Clerk maintains electronic proceedings for Circuit and Associate Circuit judges of the 24th Judicial Circuit. A court order may come before the physical release. A dismissal in one matter also does not resolve another case or hold. When the judgment commits the person to MODOC, the proper next step is state intake verification, not a claim of community release.
Washington Jail App and Photos
The county links official “Washington County Sheriff MO” applications for Android and iOS. Their store listings make them reasonable places to inspect current jail information. Yet neither public listing confirms that a released-person archive, release time, or lasting booking photo is present. App screens can also change.
If the needed photo is not visible, request the booking image as a separate item under the Sunshine Law. Missouri law does not create a blanket promise that every maintained booking photograph must appear on a public website. Arrest, investigation, juvenile, sealed, expunged, and protected material can receive different access treatment. Use the agency’s answer and stated legal basis rather than a commercial gallery.
After a Washington Jail Release
No official local source states which exit is used, when personal property is returned, whether family may wait at a particular door, or how weekend and holiday releases are handled. Call before arranging a pickup. The lack of published detail is not permission to assume a routine used by another county.
SMTS provides scheduled rural transportation in Washington County at 573-438-3735. Its published county service requires advance reservation and is not an on-demand jail shuttle. A known future release may allow time to ask about eligibility and pickup. An unexpected release needs another plan. Confirm any pickup point with both the transport provider and sheriff.
- Community release
- Physical custody ends without an immediate transfer to another agency.
- Transfer
- Custody continues with a named receiving authority.
- Time served
- The court credits or completes a period of confinement as ordered.
- Detainer
- Another authority gives notice that it may seek custody.
Washington Jail Custody Boundaries
A local bond or time-served event belongs to the sheriff’s record. State-prison parole and final discharge belong to MODOC. A federal sentence belongs in the BOP system, while a suspected immigration transfer is checked through ICE channels. These boundaries matter when two agencies act on the same day. The sheriff can state whom it released the person to, but only the receiving system can confirm what happened next.
VINE may add an event alert when a participating agency supplies the matched record. Washington County participation was not independently confirmed on the county page. A no-result should therefore lead back to the custodian and court, not to a claim that release occurred. Save any alert and compare it with the official release or transfer entry.
Read Washington Jail Release Fields
Keep each field tied to its source label. The booking number links the release to one jail event. The arresting agency identifies who brought the person in, while the holding authority and case number connect custody to a legal basis. Release date and time mark the jail’s recorded event. The release reason explains the authority, and a receiving-agency field distinguishes a transfer from community release.
Ask about aliases and a birth-date disambiguator when names are common. Request bond type and amount only if maintained, and confirm case outcomes in the court docket. A booking photo is a separate record item even when it sits in the same jail system. Keeping the requests distinct gives the custodian a clear list and makes any redaction or denial easier to understand.
